Position Overview:

The Junior Underwriter will assist in evaluating and processing loan and insurance applications, ensuring that all applications adhere to the bank’s underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in underwriting and financial services.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Application Processing:

  • Review and analyze loan and insurance applications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Assess applicants’ creditworthiness by evaluating credit reports, income statements, and other financial documents.

2. Risk Evaluation:

  • Identify potential risk factors associated with applications and make recommendations based on underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with senior underwriters to determine the feasibility of loan or insurance approvals.

3. Documentation:

  • Ensure that all required documentation is obtained, verified, and properly filed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of underwriting decisions and processes.

4. Compliance:

  • Follow bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance in all underwriting activities.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and changes that may affect underwriting practices.

5. Customer Interaction:

  • Communicate with loan processors to gather additional information or clarify details as needed.
  • Provide timely and courteous responses to inquiries related to the underwriting process.

6. Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and submit reports on underwriting activities and performance metrics.
  • Analyze trends and identify areas for process improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in banking or financial services is advantageous but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
